Well Mama's it's officially fall, so I guess it's time to get some local fall fun family activities out to all you mama's! Sorry I'm a little late! But whether it's pumpkin picking, trick-r-treating, getting those fall family photos in, going to a scary haunted house, fall crafts, or adult fall fun, we have it here for you!
Here is a list of local farms that offer pick your own pumpkins and more!
Wayside Farm Fun- Pick your own pumpkins, corn maze, jumping pillow, farm animals, & more!
Hill High Farm- Pick your own pumpkins, corn maze, farm animals, hay rides, and more! They even offer moonlit hayrides, which we have done before and it was so much fun!
Marker-Miller Orchards- Wagon rides, playground, and more! Join them for their Pumpkin Festival on October 23rd from 9-5pm! Choose from already picked for your pumpkins or pick your own! Also enjoy pumpkin pie, pumpkin rolls, pumpkin donuts from their bakery!
Richard's Fruit Market- They offer a pick your own flower garden, but everything else is already picked for you! They have lots of different farm market varieties to choose from. They also are having their Apple Festival October 16th where there will be live music, food, petting zoo, caramel apple tent, and a pumpkin patch to choose your own pumpkin!
Virginia Farm Market- Offers all ready picked produce and baked goods. They also have a pumpkin patch where you can choose your own pumpkins!
West Oaks Farm Market- Pick your own pumpkins.
Cline's Farm- The family has been farming the ground for over 50 years and offer a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year. Check on their Facebook page to see what they are offering at the moment!
If you are feeling adventurous, and want to go a bit farther out of the area, here are a few we have been to that I can recommend!
Great Country Farms- Located in Bluemont, VA. We have been to this farm several times throughout the years. This was actually the first pumpkin patch I took my oldest son to years ago..... 13 years ago to be precise.... ohh how time flies! They do allow well behaved dogs on leashes at this farm.
Cherry Crest Adventure Farm- This is one of our favorite fall venues. It is a little under 3 hours away from Winchester and located in PA, but it is a full day of fun! It is a little pricey, but totally worth the money, I think. They do offer a 25% military discount and kids 2 and under are free.
Pumpkin Village at Leesburg Animal Park- We went here a few years ago and had a great time! The kids and I even got to ride a camel for the first time =) They offer giant hill slides, moon bounces, wagon rides, petting zoo, weekend entertainment & more!
Cox Farms- This is another pumpkin patch with lots to do! You can spend a whole day here as they have lots of different attractions throughout their farm. We have been here in the past when the kids were younger, and they enjoyed it.
Field's of Adventure- We are actually going to try this one out this year! So we haven't been to it yet, but I will let you know how we like it when we go! This one is located in PA as well. They also allow well behaved dogs on leashes, which is one of the reasons we are picking this one to go to this year. Since getting our dogs, they are like our kids so we like to take them with us to as many places as we can. It looks like it has a full day of activities, similar to Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, but dog friendly!
Here is a list of trick-or treating or trunk-or-treating events!
Halloween Happenings at Clearbrook Park- October 29th & 30th
Trunk-Or-Treat- October 31st
Trunk-Or-Treat-October 24th
Trunk-Or-Treat- October 24th
Trunk-Or-Treat Car Show- October 30th. We have attended this one in the past and the kids had a lot of fun walking around to all the cool cars collecting candy.
The Most Epic Trunk Or Treat Ever- October 25th.
This is for you with older kiddos..... haunted houses and scary attractions. I can't comment on these attractions, as I am an ultimate scared-y cat and refuse to do any haunted houses or scary attractions. I leave that up to my hubby and my boys! But here are a few options......
Haunted Nightmares- At Hill High Farm in Winchester.
Fields of Fear- At Cox Farms in Centerville, VA.
Shocktober- Located in Leesburg, VA. Named the 5th scariest haunted house in the country by Travel & Leisure.
Fall family photo ideas
My favorite season is definitely summer, but my favorite time for photos with the family is fall. I love the color stories, the layers and the fall leaves.
Here are some color pallets that work well with fall photos.
So the pictures didn't turn out as well as I wanted them too, lol, (We are planning on retaking them!) but I still want to show you the outfits at least that I picked for our fall photos. For our family fall pictures, I chose yellow, blue, orange, and cream for our color story. I found the boys clothes at The Children's Place, and found my hubby's shirt and sweater and my yellow dress and my cream dress on Amazon. I chose two different outfits for the boys and I for the photoshoot, and I highly recommend it! If you are in a location where you can change your outfit, then add another outfit to your shoot! If you are not in a location where you can change your whole outfit, then you can layer on a vest, or add a scarf, necklace, or a belt to change up your outfit a little.
If you have pets, it's a fun idea to add them to your family photoshoot! It does make taking the pictures a little more tricky, but if they can sit still for a few seconds, (just enough time for the photographer to take the picture), then it comes out extra cute I think.
